Privacy Policy

Your privacy is very important to us at Smut Matters and we make every effort to protect it. In the course of doing blog business, there is certain information that we gather for various reasons. Please know that we do retain this information for business use and will never sell it. Below we have outlined the various ways we collect information from visitors and exactly how that information is used and disclosed.

Smut Matters uses a variety of analytics tools to track visitors to the blog as part of our legitimate business interest, which create Log Data. Data is collected through WordPress as well as tools such as Google Analytics, Jet Pack, and other tools that track the numbers of visitors, pages that visitors click, your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser version, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, among other information. At Smut Matters we use this information to track the success and reach of various posts and programs and to find the pages and posts that are most reached by our visitors. We also share general data about visitors and page hits with our potential advertisers. This information is used as an aggregate to monitor site traffic, rather than at the individual user level.

Smut Matters also has security plugs in to help protect against SPAM messages, brute force attacks on our log in page, and other security measures. We use tools such as Akismet and Limit Login Attempts to monitor comments and IP addresses and attempt to prevent fraudulent use of the site.

All comments are automatically tracked through WordPress under the legitimate interest basis. This includes the IP address from which the visitor posts the comment, as well as the name and email address the visitor enters in the comment form. This information is retained automatically with each comment. However, it is not shared, sold, or used for any purpose other than monitoring comments and helping to protect against SPAM messages. The exception to this are comments used for contest entries (more below).

Smut Matters hosts two newsletters. One is an update of posts when they are published. The second is a weekly Newsletter that comes out each week with a highlight of each blog post that posted that week. These are sent out via email on a consent only basis. You must sign up in order to receive the newsletters. More information and a sign up link are available on our Newsletters page.

Smut Matters uses two public facing forms as part of our business. One allows authors and publishers to request a review. This information is also retained in the database on the administrative end of the blog. Review requests are only used internally to make decisions about books to review.

Cookies are files with small amount of data that is commonly used an anonymous unique identifier. These are sent to your browser from the website that you visit and are stored on your computer’s hard drive in order to provide an enhanced experience upon returning to the site. At Smut Matters, this includes retaining commenter information in the comment form so you don’t have to enter it each time you stop by. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies, and know when a cookie is being sent to your computer. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service.

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.
