I did not expect this book. I didn’t expect Zack at all. My heart broke for him when Gina died at the end of the 2nd book. I was expecting this book to be a really difficult, weepy read. I waited until I had a free weekend and a full box of tissues to read it. I was expecting several hundred pages of Zack falling for Kate and hating himself for it, racked with guilt because of Gina’s death and guilt for moving on. That’s not… exactly what we got. – Smut Matters

I’ve recently come off of a long hiatus from the urban fantasy/paranormal romance genres. I just got burned out on them and needed a break. But now I’m back and I’m rediscovering why I liked them so much. I’m working my way through the Psy/Changeling series, the Mercy Thompson series, the Kate Daniels series, and the Dresden Files. Oh! And the the Charley Davidson series. I’ve learned that one thing that makes these genres work better for me is listening to them on audio. Maybe it’s something about the first person POV that clicks in audio form, I don’t know. But it’s really working for me. Technically, I’ve been listening to the Dresden Files for a few years now, but there’s no mystery why that works for me. My crush on James Marsters (the narrator) is a well-documented fact. But I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to […]
